Health and Care

Like all pets, yorkies need to be kept up on all shots, and deworming.  This will ensure your puppy will live a long and healthy life.  Most Groomers, Kennels, Animal Hospitals, and other boarding facilities require updated shot records should you need their services.

Puppies need to always have fresh water down for them and food at least three times a day.  We recommend that you always have dry food available to them at all times.  Remember they are growing and their appetites will change from day to day.

All small dogs, including Yorkies need a nutritional suppliment added to their diet, such as "NutriCal".  This can be purchased at any pet store such as PetsMart, or PetsCo.  One small dab everyday and your dog will get all those important vitamins they need.  Many small dogs are often prone to Hypoglocemia, which can be treated by keeping them on a suppliment as mentioned above.

Grooming

Keeping your new puppy properly groomed will insure them a nicer, softer coat. Blow drying and brushing them after every bath will help keep their coats free from snarls and matting.  Taking them to a qualified groomer every few months for a trim will keep them looking great.  Groomers also offer other services like nail clipping, ear cleaning, and much more.  This is a great idea to have done a few times a year.

Clean Surroundings

All pets soil their bedding from time to time.  However leaving your new pet in dirty environments increases the risk of sickness and disease.  Always wash your pets beeding, blankets, and toys when needed.  Don't allow them to play in areas that contain waste, or dangerous chemicals.  Here is a list of things to look out for in your home that may be a potential hazard.

Electrical cords, plants in low areas that is accesible to your pet, household cleaners, small toys, or pieces that could cause your puppy to choke, mini-blind strings that could get tangled around thier neck.
